Meet the Team!

The DEMSA  board members work very hard to bring together useful events and resources for students in the Disaster and Emergency Management Program at York University. Our team members are highly committed and passionate about advocating for fellow students and bringing together our vast community to share information and strengthen relationships.

Meet the Exec Team for 2019!

Marie-Eve Bastien: PRESIDENT 

Marie-Eve has a Bachelors of Arts from McGill in International Development with a minor in African Studies. Her interest in disaster and emergency management was sparked after working in air transport security. She is passionate about social issues, including the environment, food security and social inequalities. She is deeply interested in the developing world, and this fuels her love of travel.

Taylor Kidd-Milne: FINANCE COORDINATOR

Taylor has received a Bachelors degree in Environment and Business from the University of Waterloo, she also holds a diploma in Environmental Assessment. Her interest in Emergency Management developed in early childhood, after witnessing the Walkerton Water Crisis and the Goderich Tornado. She is an engaged community member, having volunteered for Girl Guides for 15 years. She hopes to help businesses develop more sustainable practices.

Sangeethai Sivan: EVENTS COORDINATOR

Sangeethai graduated from the University of Toronto with a BA in Criminology and International Relations. She spent a few months backpacking in Southeast Asia before jumping back into academia for her MDEM. She has worked for Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. She is also a volunteer with the Red Cross, serving as an Emergency Response Team Member.

Katee Brough: SOCIAL MEDIA AND MARKETING COORDINATOR

Katee graduated from the University of Guelph with a BA in Psychology and Political Science. She then went on to complete a TEFL Certification at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. This certification took her abroad to teach in Osaka, Japan for a year. She is interested in building resilience in communities through training, coordination with stakeholders and building trauma support.

Brady Podliski: ALUMNI AND FACULTY LIAISON 

Brady completed a BA in Political Science from the University of Calgary. During his undergraduate degree he was the Vice President of Student life, this meant liasing with many groups, developing plans to help international students and planning events. Brady is interested in building strong relationships within the community and fostering a space for students to learn more about emergency management.
