We strongly encourage students to explore adding content for their resumes. Like any other profession, the more certification and training you have, the better your competitive advantage in the job market.
Business Continuity Certification (ABCP)
The Associate Business Continuity Professional certification supports entry level proficiency and forms the basis for moving to other certifications offered by DRI International. ABCP is for individuals with some knowledge in business continuity planning, but who have not yet acquired the necessary experience for certification at a higher level.
Business Continuity Certification (CBCP)
The Certified Business Continuity Professional is our most widely recognized and held business continuity certification in the world. CBCPs are professionals that have demonstrated both knowledge and skill in the business continuity/disaster recovery industry. For the most part, these professionals have been working in the industry for at least two years and are looking for the recognition that comes with certification.
Canadian Security Studies Programme
The Canadian Security Studies Programme (CSSP) is conducted annually for selected senior military and civilian members of the Department of National Defence, members of other federal and provincial governmental departments, members of police forces and emergency services, allied military officers, and representatives from defence industries.
Canadian Risk Management (CRM) Designation The Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation is a widely recognized qualification that provides risk managers a foundation of knowledge and skills needed to identify, assess, monitor and limit risks. The CRM is recognized by the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and awarded by the Global Risk Management Institute (GRMI). Attaining the CRM designation demonstrates a level of professional commitment, knowledge and skills that employers in both public and private sectors recognize.
Canadian Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies (Carleton University)
The Canadian Centre of Intelligence and Security Studies (CCISS) is an Organized Research Unit established in 2002 under the aegis of the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) at Carleton University. CCISS grew out of an already flourishing NPSIA research unit, the Centre for Security and Defence Studies (CSDS) to become a separate and distinct interdisciplinary research centre focusing specifically on Intelligence and National Security. It is Canada’s first and – still — only university centre dedicated to research in Intelligence and National Security Studies.
CANWARN is a volunteer organization of ham radio operators who report severe weather when they see it to Environment Canada. What they do is called ground-truthing. They confirm on the ground what satellites and radars see in the atmosphere. When Environment Canada's weather centres issue severe weather watches or warnings, they alert the CANWARN volunteers at the organization's regional stations in the affected areas. The volunteers contact other CANWARN members on the ham radio, tell them a watch or warning has been issued and ask them to report signs of approaching severe weather.
CPR & First Aid Training
The Canadian Red Cross offers a wide variety of courses that meet the needs of the general public, workplaces, schools and organizations. These include First Aid at Home, Corporate & Workplace First Aid, Swimming & Water Safety and Violence, Bullying & Abuse Prevention.
Department of Homeland Security Training
The Department of Homeland Security offers a variety of training opportunities for DHS personnel, partners and citizens, including home and business owners.
Emergency Management Graduate Certificate (Algonquin College)
This Ontario College Graduate Certificate program equips students, both tactically and strategically, to understand and respond to the four domains of emergency management: mitigation/prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
Emergency Management Ontario Training

Federal Emergency Management Association Courses

Incident Management Systems (IMS) Certification
Consistent with internationally recommended practices, Ontario has developed an Incident Management System (IMS) that provides standardized organizational structures, functions, processes and terminology for use at all levels of emergency response in Ontario. IMS addresses the need for coordinated responses to all types of incidents and has been developed with input from more than 30 emergency response organizations from Ontario.
